Ferrarelle presents its sustainability report 2025 with the mapping of climate risks
- Information
Ferrarelle Società Benefit presents “From the springs to the sea, our sustainable course”, its sustainability report 2025 now in its seventh edition and accompanied by the impact report.
The key figures
During the year, the company improved its score in the benefit impact assessment (BIA) by 0,7 points, reaching 90,3 points. The economic value generated rose to approximately 257 million euros, an increase of 3% compared with 2024, while approximately 1 million euros was allocated to supporting the community through donations, socially relevant initiatives and product donations. 87% of total expenditure also concerned Italian suppliers, representing approximately 198 million euros.
Ferrarelle Società Benefit also obtained the EcoVadis Bronze Medal, with a score of 72/100 and a position in the 83rd percentile among the companies assessed. The rating examines corporate performance in the areas of the environment, labour practices and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, providing an additional tool for measurement and improvement.
Environmental sustainability
The main new feature of the report is the first structured analysis of the climate and environmental risks affecting the spring catchment areas of Riardo, in Campania, and Darfo Boario Terme, in Lombardy. The mapping identified eight risks, for each of which probability, magnitude, time horizon and possible operational, financial and reputational implications were assessed, together with the mitigation measures already in place, including the multi-well network, geochemical and isotopic monitoring, and continuous oversight of the catchment areas.
In 2025, this approach to environmental protection produced tangible results in four main areas:
- Energy and emissions: total energy consumption decreased by 2,26%, while the trigeneration plant in Riardo produced 62.650 GJ of energy. Direct Scope 1 emissions decreased by 6,21% and location-based Scope 2 emissions by 13%.
- Water resources: withdrawals decreased by 7%, also thanks to maintenance and upgrades to the pipelines and water treatment systems, which helped improve the ratio between water extracted and bottled product.
- Circular economy: 79% of the waste generated was sent for recovery, an increase of 3 percentage points compared with 76% in 2024. The company also used approximately 5.400 tonnes of R-PET, equal to 28% of the PET used overall.
- Catchment area control and protection: more than 600 checks are carried out every day in the company’s laboratories, including analyses of the product, processes and parameters used to safeguard water quality and the integrity of the catchment areas.
Social sustainability
Ferrarelle Società Benefit closed 2025 with 426 employees, 93% of whom were on permanent contracts. The proportion of women in the workforce increased by 10% compared with 2024, reaching 18% of the company’s workforce.
Total training hours amounted to 15.897, an increase of 44% compared with the previous year, while training per employee rose to 37,3 hours. The programmes covered the development of technical, digital, managerial and interpersonal skills.
More than 3.200 hours of training were dedicated to the people involved in launching the new production line for cans at the Riardo plant.
During the year, the three-year “Safety Culture” project was also launched, involving the entire organisation in a programme of awareness-raising, listening and continuous improvement on health and safety issues, reflected in a concrete result: a reduction of 40% in accidents.
Economic sustainability
The economic value generated by the Company reached approximately 257 million euros, an increase of 3% compared with 2024, of which more than 236 million euros was distributed to stakeholders. Total expenditure on suppliers amounted to more than 228 million euros, with 87% allocated to Italian companies, representing approximately 198 million euros, confirming the central role of the national supply chain in the Company’s procurement model.
Ferrarelle Società Benefit also confirms its position as the third-largest Italian group by value in the mineral water sector.
The comment
“For us, the sustainability report represents much more than reporting: it is a governance tool that enables us to view performance, impacts and risks in an integrated way, turning the evidence collected into tangible elements to guide decisions and build the company’s future,” comments Cristina Miele, Director of Administration, Finance and Control and Head of Ferrarelle’s Società Benefit. “The improvement in the BIA, the growing investment in people and, above all, the first structured mapping of climate and environmental risks affecting our spring catchment areas confirm an approach based on measurement, prevention and the ability to anticipate change. Protecting water requires increasingly in-depth knowledge of the areas concerned and a long-term perspective, in which scientific research, expertise and corporate responsibility converge to strengthen the resilience of the resource and the systems that safeguard it.”
