Refrigeration: enhanced performance with Epta’s Xte
Epta – independent global player specialising in commercial refrigeration – highlights the results achieved by the Auchan Korzó hypermarket in Maglód, Hungary, in the months following completion of the installation of Xte (Extra transcritical efficiency), carried out in collaboration with Energy Recovery Inc.
The innovative refrigeration system is set to revolutionise the cold chain in organised large-scale retail.
The Hungarian store houses a customised system. Featuring enhanced refrigeration capacity, the system reaches a total of 285 kW.
“The data collected and processed across a significant range of operating conditions, starting with the various seasonal outdoor temperatures, showed performance above expectations, with an average measured saving of 15% with the Xte system in operation, up to temperatures of 42°C,” says Stefano Trabucchi, Epta system engineering group manager. “This achievement is the result of constant research and development aimed at making the technology increasingly cutting-edge, starting with the optimisation and standardisation of the refrigeration circuit.”
The Maglód installation is one of the first application studies of Xte, carried out as part of the European Enough project, which Epta supports by contributing to the testing of new technologies. Funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme and coordinated by Sintef Ocean in Norway, the plan aims to decarbonise technologies for large-scale retail and make the cold chain climate-neutral and more efficient.
This turnkey project confirms Epta as a fully integrated provider, capable of completing every phase involved in the store’s refit: from designing the optimal refrigeration system and configuring the cabinet layout, to their installation and commissioning, through to the provision of after-sales services.
An integrated approach that translates not only into superior quality and efficiency, but also into figures that matter: 10 thousand sq m of sales area, 131 remote cabinets, connected to one another and to the refrigeration plants through 5 km of copper piping, and 24 temperature-controlled areas for storing fresh and frozen foods, refurbished by Epta through retrofit work involving 35 new evaporators.
The creative team at EptaConcept designed a harmonious and elegant layout and created synergies between the Eurocryor display cabinets and the Costan models, thanks to the complementarity of the Group’s brands, with the aim of increasing appeal and profitability in the various departments: pre-packaged fresh produce, high-value fresh produce and frozen foods.
