Findus has launched the first official comic dedicated to its iconic brand character: “Captain Findus – The Eagle’s Treasure”, presented as a preview at Lucca Comics & Games 2026.

A new chapter for the hero of the seas who has accompanied Italian families for generations and who, thanks to the collaboration between Findus and the Scuola Internazionale di Comics, continues to explore new creative languages and territories, reaching out to younger generations too.

The birth of the comic

The comic’s debut represents the evolution of a project launched in 2024, when Findus, in collaboration with the Scuola Internazionale di Comics, launched a creative contest involving 30 young comic artists, who were asked to reinterpret the world of Captain Findus through original comic strips. The works of the five finalists were reproduced on limited-edition Findus Fish Fingers packaging and put to a consumer vote, inviting them to choose their favourite interpretation of the Captain.

The public’s favourite was Matteo Montanari, born in 1995, who was presented with the award at Lucca Comics & Games 2025, on the occasion of Findus’ first participation in the event. A year later, the project takes a further step forward: the first comic strips on the packaging have developed into an original story, with Captain Findus at the centre of an entire narrative universe.

The story

The comic “Captain Findus – The Eagle’s Treasure” takes readers aboard the Captain’s sailing ship, together with a young crew ready to follow him on a new, gripping adventure. Following the trail of a mysterious giant eagle, Captain Findus and his companions will venture through unexplored forests and the ruins of an ancient golden city, facing dangers and uncovering forgotten secrets. A journey full of twists and turns, combining the allure of the treasure hunt with the values of friendship, teamwork and respect for nature.

The comments

“Captain Findus is much more than a character: he is an icon who has shaped the imagination of entire generations, capable of reinventing himself while preserving values such as a spirit of adventure, courage and imagination, which make him so recognisable and loved,” said Alessandro Solazzi, cluster marketing director Southern Europe at Findus. “Together with the Scuola Internazionale di Comics, we wanted to give this narrative universe a new dimension, entrusting it to the creativity and perspective of young talents. The Captain’s first official comic is the tangible result of this journey: a project born from a contest, developed through public involvement and now turned into a genuine publication. Returning to Lucca Comics & Games this year to present it means celebrating not only a new adventure for the Captain, but also the ability of an iconic character to continue speaking to different audiences and generations through ever-new forms of expression.”

At the heart of the project is also the desire to support emerging comic talents, offering them the opportunity to engage with an iconic character and see their ideas come to life beyond the pages of a contest.

“The collaboration with Findus began with the desire to offer young comic artists a genuine opportunity to put their creativity to the test, engaging with a well-known and much-loved character and with the challenge of creating original stories. Seeing Matteo Montanari’s work today, as one of the talents from our School, transformed into a fully fledged comic, presented in a prestigious setting such as Lucca Comics & Games and intended for publication with Panini, is a great source of satisfaction. It is a result that demonstrates how important it is to offer aspiring authors opportunities to express their talent,” added Giuseppe Camuncoli, comic artist and artistic director of the Scuola Internazionale di Comics in Reggio Emilia.

The comic will be published together with Panini during 2027.
